Swedish speaker Wendel Swan will talk on the topic of Swedish Folk Weavings
with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a lecture at 6:15 p.m.
Hosted by Chicago Oriental Rug and Textile Society at the Minasian Rug Company, 1244 Chicago Ave., Evanston.

Those not familiar with Swedish textiles are likely to be surprised by how appealing they can be, how many of them are quite different from normal expectations for European textiles and how many of them have an aesthetic sense similar to what we encounter in Near Eastern textiles.
Wendel will also compare and contrast Swedish textiles with some of their Near Eastern counterparts, both in design and structure. Although they are part of a textile continuum that began in Mesopotamia and eventually extended eastward to Mongolia and west to Spain and Scandinavia, Swedish folk weavings remained distinctive, diverse, interesting and handsome.

Guests are invited to bring any kind of Scandinavian textiles to the program. In addition, any kind of Northern European cushion or cover would be welcome.
