Still Life is a solo exhibition of large-scale paintings by Karin Broos, one of the most acclaimed artists working in Sweden today.
Broos draws from her early experience with abstract painting to create thoughtful and photo-realistic works, often inspired by an empathetic woman’s perspective. Her paintings invoke a wistful sense of melancholy with scenes of forests and lakes from around her home in Värmland and contemplative perspectives of her home and family including daughters and grandchildren. The exhibition encompasses about 55 paintings, from 2011 to present, with nearly 20 being shown publicly for the first time. Seemingly everyday environments are frozen in time, creating a frame of reference unique to the relationship between the subject and the artist.
This exhibition was organized by Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde Art Musuem in Stockholm and Sweden's Alma Löv Museum.
