Springfest 2017 is set for April 30. The celebration of colonial and native life (including Colonial New Sweden) in the Delaware Valley will have food, games, music and more to entertain the entire family.
Springfest is held in Wilmington, DE., at Old Swedes Historical Site, Fort Christina National Park,The Copeland Maritime Center and the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard. It will run from noon to 4 p.m.
Experience the rich historical heritage of the 7th Street Peninsula and the Colonial-era cultures of the Lenni Lenape, Swedes, Finns, Dutch and English. An afternoon of fun and learning for the whole family.
Noon - festivities begin with the Landing Ceremony at Fort Christina Park.
1 - 4 pm:
• Tours of Copeland Maritime Center; children's crafts and games; crafters and exhibitors on hand with a variety of demonstrations from candle making to weaving. Vendors and music all afternoon.
• at Old Swedes Historic Site: archaeology dig and artifact exploration, musical artist Silly Joe, scavenger hunt and children's crafts; live music, demonstration of open-hearth Swedish cooking and handcrafts; vendors, Plum Pit Catering.
Entrance and most activities free; several at a nominal charge. Water Taxi departs from Kalmar Nyckel dock offering rides on the Christina River, 1-4 pm.
Locations include First State National Historical Park (Old Swedes Historic Site and Fort Christina); the Kalmar Nyckel and Copeland Maritime Center; a free shuttle bus will provide transportation among the locations
