The traveling exhibition "The Enduring Designs of Josef Frank" makes its last stop at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia where it opened on Sunday, September 22.
The exhibition focuses on work by the furniture and textile designer, Austrian-born Josef Frank (1885-1967). The growing rise of Nazism in Vienna prompted Frank (who was Jewish) and his Swedish wife to move to Stockholm in 1933 where Frank started working for Swedish design powerhouse Svenskt Tenn (www.svenskttenn.com) and quickly became a leading pioneer of modern design. He represented a free, artistic style ideal, and developed his own type of modernism with values such as comfort and color.
Frank continues to be celebrated as a leading pioneer of Swedish Modern design, and many of Frank’s textile designs and furnishings remain in production today.
The exhibition is on view at the American Swedish Historical Musuem in Philadelphia through February 23, 2014.
