A legend leaves

Ibrahimovic retires from Swedish soccer.

The Swedish soccer star announced his retirement from international football after 16 years with Sweden. Though Zlatan Ibrahimovic plans to continue playing at club level — he’s rumored to be playing with Manchester United — his years of playing for his country are over.
When the final whistle came on June 22, the striker left international football after Sweden’s 1-0 loss to Belgium in the Euro 2016 championship. Ibrahimovic, 34, says goodbye after having left an indelible mark on Swedish football as his nation’s top scorer with 62 goals in 115 internationals, many of them spectacular.
On his way out, he kept his chats with the media short, proclaiming that he “came like a king, but left like a legend” and recalled his personal history as the son of immigrants and growing up to be Sweden’s greatest sporting hero since tennis star Björn Borg. “It’s a nice story, because of where I came from in Rosengård, what people call ‘ghetto.’ I made the country my country,” he said. Though selected as one of Sweden’s 35 team members for the Olympics this August, he will not participate.
Here's more on Zlatan Mania in Sweden, the U.S. and world.
