Swedes have come to the United States to build bridges to the future for a long time. From the founding of New Sweden in Delaware in 1638 to the apogee of Swedish immigration in the late 19th century, American employers were first attracted to the particular Swedish combination of talents: ingenuity combined with simplicity, persistence, hard work, practicality and honesty.

In these post millennial times there is a new synergy growing between the highly educated, tech-oriented Swedish immigrants of today and the innovative entrepreneurial spirit in the greater Bay Area.
San Francisco provides a substrate for change and radical restructuring. Its vibe is as much inspirational as it is competitive. From Boom to Bust, Gold Fever to Free Love, Wireless to Wearables, the city and bay have a history of riding one wave or another—while holding out the promise of a richer life.
And so creative people continue to come to the Bay Area from across the globe, seeking new opportunities and looking to transform virtual ideas into better realities.

So how do you make it here in the San Francisco Bay Area? How do you stand out from the crowd? How do you begin to build your own bridges?
Following the success of The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce’s first two events in the workshop series “Global Questions, Local Answers,” we invite you to join us for a third: “Advancing Your Career in the Bay Area” on April 23. At the workshop you will receive strategic career advice on a variety of topics from tailoring your résumé and improving your interview skills, to perfecting your pitch, building confidence and networking.

Our panel of career experts includes corporate recruiter E.J. Dieterle (CEO, president and co-founder of Yes Partners, a global executive search firm). E.J. has spent most of his career internationally managing and growing multinational companies. He is a member of Rotary International, NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) and WAC (World Affairs Council). E.J. has presented on various topics including HR and international business to the Nihon University (Tokyo), UC Berkeley and DeVrys University (San Jose), and has conducted seminars on market entry in Japan, South Korea and Europe.
Global corporate and startup strategist Bo Larsson (CEO at Fantom Wireless, Inc.) will also be there. Bo has broad experience in wireless networking, telecommunications, computer and multimedia markets. His effective strategic planning has strengthened the brand of leading, multinational companies such as Sony, Ericsson and Fujitsu.
Another expert will be communications coach Melissa Monson (founder of Monson Communications LLC). Melissa is well known in the business community for her ability to help people communicate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner. She has been a lecturer at UC Berkeley and the State Bar of California, and has been published in the San Francisco Chronicle and numerous business journals.
