Thirty countries participated in the survey "The Global Youth Wellbeing Index,” produced by International Youth Foundation, and according to the survey Swedish youth live better lives than their peers around the world. Only young Australians have it better.
Australia ranked first of the 30 countries, followed by Sweden in second place and South Korea in third. The index, established by two American think tanks—the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the International Youth Foundation—measured the quality of life of people aged 12 to 24 according to a range of different indicators. These included citizen participation, economic opportunity, education, health, information and communications technology, safety and security. Alice Bah Kuhnke, general director of Myndigheten för Ungdoms- och civilsamhällsfrågor (Authority for Youth and civil society issues), says, “In general, young people in Sweden feel they can influence their lives, they believe in the society and believe they have the possibility to influence.”
