Vasaloppet's Snow less Success

Even without snow, Vasaloppet USA successfully introduced a new event, Skijoring.

The 2015 Mora Vasaloppet Ski Race planners faced the challenge of limited snow this winter and shortened the course from the large Knife Lake to the smaller Lake Mora, closer to downtown. Turn-out was a little lower than other years, but it was a success nonetheless. The race's major focus is always on skiing, but other events add to the weekend celebration — an evening dance, a pancake breakfast, an art show, a live radio show and the highlight of this year: skijoring. Skijoring, or ski driving, is a winter sport in which cross-country skiers are pulled by one to three dogs. It was a successful first year for this event, and the dogs were as excited as their owners, handlers and spectators.
