The Center for Scandinavian Studies will celebrate Dag Hammarskjöld's life and legacy with a video and photography exhibit at Brandel Library from October 23 to November 13, 2009.
Please join us for the opening reception the day before UN day, October 23, 2009 at 4:00 pm on the 1st floor of Brandel Library.
The opening of the exhibit will feature a lecture "The Motivation of a Life of Significance" by Charles Peterson, Dean of the College and Executive Director for the Center for Scandinavian Studies, North Park University. Coffee and tea will be served.
As an interactive element to the exhibit, visitors are encouraged to write in "the visitor reflection book" on conflict resolution in the 21st century and how it relates to the thoughts of Dag Hammarskjöld. Such reflections find a natural connection to the Campus Theme "What is justice".
Dag Hammarskjöld, also known as "Sweden's J.F.K", was Secretary General of the United Nations 1953-1961, and one of the most admired and respected international leaders of the 20th century. He was a prominent person when it came to conflict resolution and received the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously.
