North America’s largest Scandinavian festival, Norsk Høstfest, turns 33 this year. The event attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually and takes place at the State Fair Center in Minot, North Dakota, beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and running through Saturday, Oct. 2, with an opening night concert set for Tuesday, Sept. 28.
World-class entertainers scheduled to appear on the Great Hall of the Vikings stage include:
• Country singer-songwriter Alan Jackson (Tues. evening, 7 p.m.; Wed., 1 p.m.)
• Country crooner/guitar picker Vince Gill (Wed., 7 p.m.; Thurs., 1 p.m.)
• Irish singing sensation Daniel O'Donnell (Thurs., Fri. and Sat., all at 7 p.m.)
• Bill Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band, popular gospel singing group (Fri., 1 p.m.)
• The Four Tops and The Temptations, two top Motown male musical groups (Sat., 1 p.m.)
Five additional stages sprinkled around the Høstfest complex feature a revolving schedule of performers, including The Oak Ridge Boys, Adbacadabra (the ultimate ABBA concert) and the Williams & Ree comedy duo. Music runs the gamut from contemporary to country; stars range from a 15-year-old yodeling cowgirl to veteran entertainers such as singer Bjøro Haaland, the “Norwegian Cowboy,” back for his 25th Høstfest performance.
