The Museum’s special exhibit, Nordic Light, is a collection of 50 paintings and watercolors by Swedish artist Johan Thunberg. It will bring a bright spot to the first floor gallery and display many paintings about light in nature. “In Sweden there is a special light in the nature,” Thunberg says, “in the summer, in the autumn and so on.” While many artists have in the past and present depicted the environment, Thunberg says he paints it in an individualistic and Swedish way. “In my way, I will give the people that look at my paintings the same that I see—all the beautiful things that nature gives you.
Thunberg’s love of nature extends to both the sea and the forest and this depiction of nature is evident in Nordic Light. Thunberg’s work has been displayed in galleries and institutions throughout the world. He has had 20 exhibits in the United States in the past 10 years.
