Swedish Artist Per Nylen Brings His Cloud Cities to NYC
For Immediate Release
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Swedish artist Per Nylen in Sensorial Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 28, 2013 through July 19, 2013. The opening reception will be held on Thursday night, July 11, 2013 from 6-8 pm.
About the Artist
Swedish artist Per Nylen will not reveal who inhabits the wondrous floating houses that he paints, but regards his architectural creations’ sense of mystery as part of their charm and appeal. Indeed, set amidst cloudlike swaths of acrylic paint, surrounded by bright tones, glowing from within, and always precariously narrow and tall, these teetering domestic towers catch the eye and fire the imagination. The surreal, suspended cityscapes emerge from a strange encounter between landscape painting, abstraction, and illustration.
Working first with thickly applied and textured acrylic pigments, Nylen forms nearly non-figurative vistas filled with clouds. Atop these layers of paint he draws the sharp black lines of his gravity-defying homes. His imaginary structures are full of personality, a fact thrown into relief by each work’s title, which evokes either a line of dialogue between two inhabitants or something a house itself might say if it could speak. The paintings’ names echo the playfulness of the pieces, while concealing more than they reveal, leaving us to fill in both the gaps and the apartments.

About the Exhibition
The weather is heating up, and so is the atmosphere at Agora Gallery as we present art that has the ability to inspire and energize. The French Perspective: Contemporary Art from France features artworks that seem to have a life of their own, infused as they are with the passion and power of the artists who created them. Delightfully poised between the simplicity of frankness and the complexity of a conscious awareness of the world, the works speak in a language that is both compelling and persuasive. In Pathway to Abstraction, artists glory in the wonder of life and their own comprehension of it, passing on a message of optimism and understanding to us through their work. These works will capture your attention and enthrall your emotions, bringing you in to become an active interpreter of what you see. Sensorial Realms introduces us to a sense of mystery that seems to infect and enliven the banal and the everyday. The essence of creativity animates every aspect of the works, though each artist has allowed impulse and their artistic process to guide them in different ways and to produce a mood and atmosphere unique to them and their work. The exhibitions begin on June 28, 2013 and run until July 19, 2013, 2013. The opening reception takes place on the evening of Thursday, July 11, 2013. Entrance is free and art lovers looking for inspiration are warmly encouraged to attend and meet some of the artists who created these dazzling works.
