Lawyer Clémence (Vicky Krieps, Phantom Thread) has been separated for several years from her husband Laurent (Antoine Reinartz), with whom she shares custody of their son, Paul. When Clémence tells Laurent that she has begun to have romantic relationships with women, he takes the news badly, cutting off all communication with her, and hiring a lawyer to seek full custody of Paul.
