Join us for the annual Swedish Midsummer Celebration—one of Sweden’s most beloved traditions—right in the heart of Washington, DC!
As we continue to grow this event, our goal is to make Midsummer a signature Swedish‑American moment in the nation’s capital—one that brings people together across backgrounds and perspectives, setting aside politics and differences to celebrate culture, community, and shared joy.
This year’s celebration also takes place as the United States marks its 250th anniversary, honoring our long-shared history that stretches back nearly four centuries, when the early settlers of New Sweden came to the Delaware river. Midsummer offers a joyful opportunity to celebrate these enduring ties and the close friendship between Sweden and the United States.
Last year, nearly 4,000 people—families, students, Washingtonians, and visitors from across the region—joined us on the lawn of the Sylvan Theater for an evening of dancing, music, and cultural exchange.
This year’s celebration builds on that energy with a lively program featuring classic Midsummer traditions such as flower wreath making, dancing around the Midsummer pole, and live performances, including a live DJ playing high-energy dance tunes. More details to come soon!
Bring your friends, your family, a flower wreath, a picnic blanket, and whatever food your heart desires—everyone is welcome to this free and festive celebration.
We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of summer light, culture, and community on the National Mall!
