30th Annual Swedish Bazaar on Saturday, November 7, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Free Admission.
Location: St. James Episcopal Church, 11815 Seven Locks Road, Potomac, MD
VOA, Drott Lodge #168, will sponsor its 30th Annual Swedish Bazaar at the St. James Episcopal Church in Potomac, Maryland. The Bazaar, the biggest in the Potomac area and usually the first of the Scandinavian bazaars in the Washington Metro area, features a smörgĺsbord of local and imported Swedish delights sure to please people of all cultures. Admission is free, with a portion of the sales proceeds going to charitable organizations such as Bethesda Cares in Bethesda, MD, and Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., as well as to organizations that help promote and preserve Swedish-American history and culture.
Delicious Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce (featured lunch menu items) are popular, but here one can also find linens, books, Christmas decorations, Swedish Wheat Weaving, Scandinavian dipped candles, Nordic stamps, and household items, and handicrafts common to the Swedish culture. With the holidays just around the corner, it’s a perfect opportunity to purchase unique gifts and foods. Other items for sale include homemade Swedish baked goods and hand-crafted straw goods. Pea soup, open-face sandwiches and desserts are offered at the café.

Directions: From the East, West or South, take the Beltway (I-495) to North on Washington National Pike (I-270). Take the exit to West Montrose Road. Go west to Seven Locks Road and make a left (South) onto Seven Locks Road. Proceed South and the church will be on the left in less than a mile. From the North, proceed to I-270 and follow the directions above. Look for the yellow banner with a large red Swedish horse on it.
The Vasa Order of America is a Swedish-American fraternal organization with nearly three hundred lodges throughout the United States, Canada, and Sweden. Local lodge Drott #168 will celebrate its 100th anniversary in February 2010 and is now over 200 members strong. This 30th Annual Bazaar is part of an ongoing commitment to educating the community about Scandinavian cultures.
