The Nordic Family Genealogy Center offers classes that meet the fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon January through November. Specific topics are discussed with some “hands-on” activities. Annual Membership Fee for Museum members: $20 per year. Non-members pay $10 per session.
Afternoon classes are offered from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on alternate months following morning classes. These are more individualized sessions, either related to expanding the morning topic, or directed to providing individual assistance in beginning research, translating documents, finding additional resources, and solving research problems. Although you are encouraged to attend both sessions, if you are only able to participate in the afternoon session, call the Museum and make a reservation. If possible, bring your laptop computer and family information to classes.
Jan. 24: Morning and afternoon sessions; recommendations for and hands-on use of computerized genealogy programs, especially FamilyTreeMaker
Feb. 28: Morning class only. Resources available in the Nordic Family Genealogy Center, what information can be obtained, and how to use the computerized programs.
March 28: Morning and afternoon sessions. The answer to the question: “What’s in the basement at the Museum?”
April 25: Morning session only. “How can I find out where my ancestors are buried in the Chicagoland area? What information does the cemetery have that I can’t get anywhere else? Do I need a lawyer to get the information from the cemetery?”
May 23: Morning and afternoon sessions. “I want to know! Where did my grandparents come from, and how did they get here?”
June 27: Midsommarfest at a member’s home. More information to come.

The Genealogy Center is open for individual research Wednesday afternoons between noon and 3:30 p.m. Individual assistance is provided by qualified members of the Nordic Family Genealogy Center.
