Between Heaven and Earth
Katarina Jönsson Söderberg will exhibit Between Heaven and Earth at the Swedish American Museum. The exhibit opening will take place in the Museum’s gallery on Friday, March 20 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on display through June 14, 2009.
Katarina Jönsson Söderberg was born in Uppsala, Sweden where she still resides with her husband and two children. After attending The Art School of Stockholm, Söderberg was accepted to Nyckelviksskolan at Lidingö and Gerleborgsskolan in Stockholm.
Between Heaven and Earth, depicting the strong variation between Söderberg’s pieces, demonstrates her work with oil paintings, and collages. Söderberg uses calm and clean lines. With her harmonic color scales, Söderberg often depicts the ocean, stones, and nature using Sweden’s coastline as her inspiration as well as flowers and dance motives. The thread that binds her various pieces is the common color palette in which they are displayed.
Söderberg has exhibited her work at various locations in Sweden. She has been at Glommens Harbor on the West Coast of Sweden every summer since 1996 and at the Galleri Oxen in Båstad in 2005. In Uppsala, Söderberg’s work has been shown at Kraftkällan in 1999 and during Culture Night from 2004 to 2008.
The Swedish American Museum will open Between Heaven and Earth on Friday, March 20, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The following Saturday, March 21, a Gallery Walk will occur at the Museum, with Söderberg, beginning at 11 a.m. The Museum’s quarterly open-house, Start with Art, will focus on the exhibit and provide free admission and complimentary breakfast on Wednesday, March 25 from 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. The exhibition will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
