The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce-Philadelphia (SACC-Philadelphia) selected the IKEA of Conshohocken, PA to receive its 2014 business entrepreneurial award. Created in 2010 by SACC-Philadelphia, the annual award recognizes companies that have made a significant contribution to the exchange of trade and commerce between Scandinavia and the Philadelphia region, as well as important contributions toward corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices.

IKEA Conshohocken was recognized for its strong commitment to sustainable business practices and emphasis on renewability and recyclability. One example of this commitment to sustainability is their installation of 4,760 solar panels on the roof of their Conshohocken store, which produces about 1.3 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity and reduces over 900 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Consistent with the goal of being energy independent by 2020, IKEA has installed more than 700,000 solar panels on buildings across the world and owns approximately 157 wind turbines in Europe and Canada, with 104 more being built in the U.S.

“Our Chamber is proud to recognize IKEA Conshohocken as its Business Entrepreneurial Award recipient for 2014,” says David Engstrom, president of SACC-Philadelphia. “IKEA Conshohocken was unanimously selected by our executive committee after evaluating this year’s nominations. IKEA’s sustainability initiatives are very impressive as they strive to offer environmentally sound products and services, which is drawn from its Swedish heritage. We are also pleased that this company has its North American service office and two large retail locations in the Philadelphia Region."

The award was presented to store manager, Camilla Meiby, at SACC Philadelphia's annual glögg holiday reception and business mixer held at the Philadelphia Racquet Club. Many distinguished members of the Philadelphia and Scandinavian business community attended the event.
