Norrlands Gruppen / EU wants to Ban "Surströmming"
EUs will decide if Surströmming will be banned end of 2011.
Until then there is an exception for Surströmming due to the high values of dioxin.
If the exception is not extended or the value of dioxin in the Herring is decreased, the Culture of Surströmming will disappear.
Already there are many upset Surströmming-Lovers.
Since 2006 Surströmming has been banned from several major airlines, classified along with dangerous weapons like shoe bombs and firearms. Major airlines like British Airways and Air France argue the cans are presurised goods, and must be classified as potentially explosive
The decision made many Swedes very angry.
Surstromming is as Swedish as Volvo and Ikea.
