SWEA OC Annual TRADITIONAL SWEDISH CHRISTMAS FAIR IN COSTA MESA. The Swedish Women’s Educational Association (SWEA), a non-profit organization, will hold its 30th annual Swedish Christmas Fair on Sunday, November 27 from 11 am to 5 pm. The event will be held at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center at 1845 Park Avenue and will feature the beloved St. Lucia pageant along with an array of authentic Swedish foods, music, caroling, dance, crafts, the fishpond with its surprise "catches" and more. This traditional fair is popular not only among Swedes from near and far, but visitors of all origins.
Celebrated by Swedes around the world, the traditional St. Lucia pageant will be held at 1 pm and 3 pm. A lucky high school-aged girl will be crowned St. Lucia and will don the traditional white dress, red bow and candles in her hair to lead the procession of children through the audience, all while singing traditional Swedish holiday songs.
True to the Swedish culture, the fair will offer a smorgasbord of authentic Swedish foods including meatballs, ham, Jansson’s temptation, sausages and gravlax, just to name a few. Plentiful baked goods and glogg – a hot, spiced wine will be available.
At 3:30 pm the Swedish Santa Claus, or “Jultomten” as he’s called, will make an appearance. Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities.
As SWEA Orange County’s main fundraising event of the year, all proceeds from the fair will be donated to local charities and scholarships. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children and free parking is readily available on-site.
