VOX 3 Collective, in partnership with the Swedish American Museum, offers a program exploring the works of Swedish writer August Strindberg as they intersect with music. Strindberg is perhaps best known in the United States for his play Miss Julie, but he wrote over 60 plays and many other works, experimenting with language, style, and technique – in many ways, becoming the father of modern Swedish literature. This VOX 3 program will feature settings of Strindberg’s poetry by Swedish composers Rangström and Peterson-Berger. It will also include a world-premiere composition by Elizabeth Rudolph based on “Third Night” from Strindberg’s Sleepwalking Nights on Wide-Awake Days, and a performance of Hugo Weisgall’s chamber opera The Stronger, based on Strindberg’s play with the same name. Performers include sopranos Megan Cook, Kimberly Gunderson, and Sara Salas, baritone Brian von Rueden, and pianist Saori Chiba. Come join us for this festival of Strindberg in song and opera! Reservations are recommended.
Cost: $20 members, $25 non-members. Reserved tickets include a simple dinner.
