The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual competition held among active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Each member country submits one 3 minute song to be performed on live television and radio, followed by a series of voting for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song. The contest began in 1956 and is not only one of the longest-running television programmes in the world, but also one of the most viewed non-sporting events with audience figures between 100 million and 600 million internationally. Eurovision has also been broadcast to countries outside Europe despite the fact that they do not compete. Starting in 2000, the contest has been broadcast every year over the Internet. The country whose entry wins the most votes has the honor of hosting the competition the following year. Loreen’s “Euphoria” won the contest for Sweden last year, and as a result the contest will be held in Malmö, Sweden this year.
