Santa Lucia Day is a festival of light celebrated in Swedish homes and schools on one of the darkest days of the year. This holiday, which honors Saint Lucia, patron saint of Sweden, takes place on December 13 in Sweden. A celebration of hospitality, Santa Lucia Day teaches the values of sharing and caring for others.

Rockford's Swedish Historical Society will be celebrating their annual Christmas tradition of Lucia on Friday evening, December 6, 7:00 pm at First Lutheran Church 225 S. Third St, Rockford, IL.

A choir of children singing both Swedish and English traditional songs will warm your heart and start off the Christmas season with joy. Our Lucia this year is Ashley Jackson.

We welcome children from all backgrounds to join us ages 5 and up. This great experience teaches children about another culture and allows them to express themselves through music. Practices will begin soon, for more information call Karen Hammarberg @ 815-966-1218
