Ellinor & LeonorPlaying fiddle and 5 string cello, this touring duo plays breathtaking traditional music from Sweden, especially Dalarna. The Belgo-Argentinian cellist Leonor met the Rikspelman Ellinor at their studies in Gothenburg at the Academy of Music and Drama. Leonor received her masters degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2009 while Ellinor studied at the Conservatory in Falun. Both musicians share a sensitivity to the dance components of their music but also find inspiration in creating new compositions. Ellinor & Leonor will be teaching a beginning Swedish dance workshop for those with little experience and a series of intermediate/advanced Swedish fiddle workshops. Advanced dancers- attend the nightly parties to dance away to the shimmering music they will provide for polskas, waltzes, schottiches and polkas!

SANNA & MARS LONGDEN are long time dance educators and international dance leaders from Evanston, Illinois, who teach in schools and at educator conferences locally, nationally, and internationally. Sanna’s specialty is to focus on the “folk,” emphasizing ethnic movement, music, styling, and cultural background. Even more, her lessons illustrate how dance and movement activities can encourage community, civility, and cooperative teamwork, as well as creativity, concentration, cultures, and curriculum connections. Sanna & Mars will delight and challenge you with dances from around the world at workshops and at our nightly parties.
What else is happening?
A Scandinavian Majstang pole is a unique part of the Midsummer Tradition. We will forage for flowers, build, raise and dance around the Majstang pole on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's evening program also includes a bonfire.
Families!
Children ages 5-12 are invited to particpate in a variety of outdoor and indoor activities and projects. They are invited to decorate the Majstang, sing, dance, play theater games, craft, and more. There are free times to for kids to be kids as well. The children's program integrates smoothly into the general festival so adults and young folks can celebrate and learn together.
