World jazz flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson is curating an evening of diverse and interesting music. The three bands presented are GoGo Damo, Elsa Nilsson Quartet and Fine Wino.
GoGo Damo is a New York-based jazz trio, hailing from Germany, USA and Australia. The collective plays original compositions about the people and events in their lives in order to connect with their audience. GoGo Damo consists of Mareike Wiening (drums), Marty Kenney (bass) and Damian Sim (keys).
Elsa Nilsson Quartet combines the rich heritage of Nilsson’s Swedish homeland with jazz and musical influences from around the world. Nilsson has built a solid career and reputation upon her belief that all folk music (including jazz) has a common thread, and that by weaving those threads together, a deeper, more layered understanding among varying cultures can be reached. It is in this spirit that Elsa's "absolutely gorgeous" (Karen Pauley, KSER, Seattle) compositions shine through. Listen to “Vårvindar Friska” here:

At the crossroads of New Orleans, Nashville and NYC's downtown avant-garde, FineWino generates a new form of Americana-roots music that draws equally from country/folk traditions, modern jazz and waist-deep-in-the-swamp groove. Within the traditional guitar/bass/drum-set lineup, shades of The Meters clash with bluegrass inflections and and free-wheeling improvisation to deliver something old, new, borrowed and funky. Jeff McLaughlin (guitars), Marty Kenney (basses) and Cody Rahn (drums)
