Seattle, WA- New York-based Jazz Flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson and the West Coast edition of her band will be at Tula’s Jazz Club in Seattle on Thursday, January 29th at 7:30PM to perform an evening of original Jazz and arrangements of Swedish Traditional music with old friends from the Seattle area.
The West Coast edition of Nilsson’s band includes Jessica Lurie of The Tiptons on Saxophone, Jovino Santos-Neto on Piano, Chuck Deardorf on Bass and Jeff Busch on drums and percussion. This show will feature many special guests as well.
Swedish-born flute player Elsa Nilsson's music is profoundly playful and widely influenced. “The beauty of music is how it transcends cultural boundaries,” states Nilsson. She highlights this in her compositions by mixing cultural elements to create a sound that is distinctly her own. Nilsson has built a solid career and reputation upon her belief that all folk music (including jazz) has a common thread, and that by weaving those threads together, a deeper, more complete understanding among varying cultures can be reached.
"Do you hear that sound from the Northern skies? It’s Elsa Nilsson with something new, passionate and beautiful to say with her flute and her pen. Check out her music and let her light your skies." - Robert Dick, famed jazz flutist and mentor
“Elsa has a beautiful conception of music.” -Chris Potter, renowned jazz saxophonist
"I would've never thought that innocent face encompassed so much creativity" -Hubert Laws, award-winning jazz flutist
