Flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson will be curating a full evening of music at LIC bar. This evening will offer up music by vocalists Tammy Scheffer @ 7 p.m., Mariella @ 8 p.m., Elsa Nilsson Quartet @ 9 p.m. and The Smoke people @ 10 p.m.

p.m.: Vocalist Tammy Scheffer is one of the freshest, most exciting up and coming voices in New York City's contemporary jazz scene today. A bandleader and composer, she has been performing with her sextet to growing audiences and press recognition in the last few years, bringing her pure, instrument-like voice and unique arrangements to premier stages. Aside from her work as a bandleader, Ms. Scheffer takes part in a variety of projects, performing and recording worldwide with artists such as Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess, Greg Osby, Mark Walker, Francois Moutin, Panagiotis Andreou, and many more. www.tammyscheffer.com

p.m.: A soulful vocalist and mainstay of the New York CIty circuit, Mariella is a name to watch out for. Her poignant lyrics and masterful songwriting have earned accolades worldwide - she was named the Grand Prize winner in the 2008 Billboard World Songwriting Contest, won 2nd Place in We Are Listening's 2011 Singer/Songwriter Awards, and garnered an honorable mention in the 2010 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She is also the co-creator and co-host of one of NYC's longest-running and most critically-acclaimed hip hop jam sessions, Freestyle Mondays.

p.m.: Combining the rich heritage of her Swedish homeland with traditional jazz and varied musical influences from around the world, Nilsson and her quartet will showcase arrangements of Swedish Traditional music as well as original compositions. Nilsson has built a solid career and reputation upon my belief that all folk music (including jazz) has a common thread, and that by weaving those threads together, a deeper, more intimate understanding amongst contrasting cultures can be reached. During the performances you can expect a wide range of styles to surface in an exciting journey through cultures and time periods as the band weaves different paths though the music.

p.m.: Luke Penella (sax), Dmitry Ishenko (bass, loops) and Rob Mitzner (drums) unite to form NYC-based trio “The Smoke People”, combining mind-bending loops and grooves with elements of jazz, drum ‘n bass, and instrumental indie rock in their eponymous debut album on the label Free Lunch (ABB Records). Bassist Ishenko uses a variety of loops and effects to create a wide sonic tapestry on which the group's original tunes are woven, evoking the group’s diverse influences, including The Bad Plus, Radiohead, Bill Frisell, Ornette Coleman, Power Tools, The Fringe, Alas No Axis, and Tony Williams' Lifetime.. Drummer Mitzner locks in the groove with boundless energy and creativity, while Penella's saxophone soars high above, evoking such masters as George Garzone and Kenny Garrett. www.facebook.com/thesmokepeople
