Swedish flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson is curating a full evening of jazz in a meeting place for like-minded musicians - in the fun and relaxed setting of LIC bar.
Nilsson feels this fills a real need that isn't being met in the jazz community, where women often feel they have to toughen up in order to be taken seriously. This event will be another in a series of recurring events curated by Elsa Nilsson featuring bands with women leaders or band members.

COST: Free, donations encouraged

8 pm: Combining the rich heritage of her Swedish homeland with traditional jazz and varied musical influences from around the world, Nilsson and her quartet will showcase arrangements of Swedish Traditional music as well as original compositions. Nilsson has built a solid career and reputation upon my belief that all folk music (including jazz) has a common thread, and that by weaving those threads together, a deeper, more intimate understanding amongst contrasting cultures can be reached. During the performances you can expect a wide range of styles to surface in an exciting journey through cultures and time periods as the band weaves different paths though the music.
