Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Swedish artist Eva Otterstrom in Répartie in Art. The opening reception will take place Thursday, July 9 at 6-8 PM. Any art lover who enjoys thought provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

The expressionistic acrylic paintings on canvas of Swedish artist Eva Otterstrom combine rich colors and energetic forms to capture profound feelings and the essence of the human experience. Using figurative subjects against vibrant swathes of color and light, Otterstrom’s paintings delight in their whimsy and ability to evoke the unexpected. At the same time, the meanings contained in the layers of paint run deep, and the emotive elements conveyed by her brushstrokes offer the viewer insights into the unspoken world that accompanies all of our human moments.

With a background in silver and goldsmithing, Otterstrom has been able to transfer those skills into a style that evokes dynamic movement and a strong sense of dimensionality, even within the confines of the two-dimensional canvas. Indeed, Otterstrom’s paintings are intended to be living stories, to speak to the view of the complex and often confounding paradigms of fairness and unfairness, good and bad, and sorrow and happiness that we inevitably encounter in our lives.

Eva Otterstrom currently lives and works in Varberg/Gothenburg, Sweden, where she is also a practicing medical doctor.

The artwork on display in Répartie in Art represents the interpretations and inspirations of thirteen artists from across the world. Each piece on display tackles the concept of “space” and how it relates to those who occupy it. Whether taking a step back and appreciating a wide landscape, leaning close and examining a small fragment of a scene, turning the eye toward human or animal figures, or presenting and transforming space in a more abstract sense, each artist promises a unique take on the topic.
