Join us as historian Paul Dorpat tells the story of the businessman, folksinger, showman and unique character who over a highly successful career as a restaurateur and entertainer became a Puget Sound legend.

Ivar Haglund was a beloved Seattle personality and regional cultural icon. Born to a Norwegian mother and a Swedish father, Haglund became known as the King of Seattle’s waterfront. To this day, Haglund's unique knack for publicity stunts and business promotion made him a household name throughout Puget Sound. His highly-successful restaurants have become part of Seattle's unique character as a city for over 75 years.

Paul Dorpat has been writing the Now & Then column for Pacific NW magazine for more than three decades.
