The Mostly Nordic Chamber Music Series and Smörgåsbord has entertained our guests for more than two decades. This collection of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists captures the magic of rarely heard masterpieces an provides a rare opportunity to sample the many moods of the Nordic landscape.

This month's concert: “The Dania Project” DENMARK: Dulcina (from Portland)

The Dulcina ensemble is named for the term used by Johannes Tinctoris for the cylindrical-bore shawm-like instrument, the douçaine. Dulcina’s Dania Project presents historically informed performance of the Middle Ages through the Renaissance with douçaines, vielles, recorders, rebecs, citoles, bagpipes, sordunes, and rackets in works by Danish masters Truid Aagesen, Mogens Pedersøn and Carl Nielsen expanding into Danish fiddle tune and national song tradition, and forays into the contemporary world of Danish jazz icon Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.
