Dear fellow Swedes and other males interested in Swedish culture.
Many of you know about the Pea Soup, Artans Vanner, which is a tradition started in New York about 50 years ago by some homesick Swedish expatriates, which has now spread to some other cities in the world where Swedes reside.
The New York Pea Soup has now been dormant for a number of years and this announcemebt is to check if it is an interest for a kick start. Some of you may know my friend, Ulrika Bentsson, former owner of Ulrika’s Restaurant here in New York City, who has promised to assist with the cooking and who also has found a couple of places in the city for us as the new home for our Pea Soup events.
We will enjoy traditional menu, comprising beer, wine, schnaps, traditional Swedish Pie Soup, crisp bread, herring plate, potatoes, sour cream, thin Swedish pancakes with jam and whipped cream, more beer, wine, schnaps and punsch mixed with silly schnaps-songs performed together with the others at the table, and acertain amount of crazy jokes.
The Pie Soup has no membership fee and is not for profit. The cost for the dinner to be shared amongst the participants equally.
Please respond and let me know if you are interested in participating as we need to be as a minimum of 20 people to share in the cost, estimated to be around $125 per person.
If enough participants confirm their interest, the next Pea Soup will be served Thursday March 31, 2016. Please reply to:
