St. Lucia is a celebration of Christmas originating when monks brought Christianity to Sweden. Having been martyred in about the year 304, Lucy was known for defying Rome and taking food to the catacombs where the persecuted were hiding. A crown of candles kept her hands free to carry as much as she could. She has long been remembered by Scandinavian families at the time of Winter Solstice and "God Jul."
Much in the same way, our community chooses a young girl to depict this story and carry on the tradition with great food for all to share. We hope you will join us for this fun and festive tradition.
