The evening starts with the video of the early morning Lucia program from Sweden, where the celebration of Santa Lucia inaugurates the holiday season there. Taking over from the across-the-ocean-video will be the music by the Spirit River Scandiband, musicians who perform for Nordic dancing and listening pleasure.

After a light supper, Lucia will lead half of the guests in a procession where they will serve pepparkakor a traditional ginger cookie to those remaining seated, and then the rest of the guests with carry stars and have their turn to make a procession and serve everyone else. Guests will also learn how to make julgranskaramel, a traditional Christmas tree ornament filled with candy.

The event is sponsored by We R Able, a program that provides accessible community education classes and events for adults with disabilities and the general public in East Central Minnesota.

This particular evening also honors volunteers, teachers, presenters and performers who have worked with We R Able during the past year. And finally, the event will offer folks an opportunity to make a financial contribution towards the We R Able programs.

Rush City is located one hour north of the Twin Cities on I35.
