For more than 60 years, Pacific Lutheran University has celebrated a Swedish holiday tradition, honoring a brave young lady, Lucia, who is said to have been martyred in the 5th century. In Sweden, she is known as a woman in a white gown with a crown of candles, who brings warmth and light to her family and community.
This year's Sankta Lucia service will take place in Eastvold Auditorium in the Karen Hille Phillips Center on campus. Guests will be entertained by the beautiful voices of the PLU Sankta Lucia candidates and Sonoro Scandinavian Children's Choir. To follow, there will be a fun-filled party in the Scandinavian Cultural Center with dancing around the Christmas tree and traditional Swedish tunes.
We are grateful to be able to carry on this special tradition and for everyone who makes this program possible. Tickets are only $5, please come and bring a friend!
