Learn how to make your own wallet out of birch bark using traditional weaving techniques.
In this class we will cover the etymology of birch trees in Minnesota, discuss how bark can be sustainably harvested and hand processed into usable materials, while designing and weaving a small card holder for yourself.
(No prior weaving experience is necessary for this class - great class to begin discovering your new appreciation of birch and weaving.)

$15 materials fee payable to the instructor, Beth Homa-Style, a full-time basket weaver in Minnesota. She worked/studied at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais where she learned traditional crafts including boat building, but focused on different styles of basketry. This sparked her obsession with birch bark. She locally and sustainably harvests and processes her own materials by hand. Beth teaches birch basketry classes at North House, American Swedish Institute, the Weavers’ Guild and hosts an annual Basket Camp. Through communal learning, public demonstrations and facilitating harvests, she shares her love for this durable and beautiful material.

Registration is required at least one week in advance; please call 612-871-4907 for availability after that date.
