The Norwegian string quartet, Quartetto Testosterone, presents both Edvard Grieg’s quartets in an entirely Scandinavian program at Scandinavia House. The quartet includes musicians Sondre Fjose Sandberg, violin; Daniel Lyngstad, violin; Jakob Dingstad, viola; and Sverre Barratt-Due, cello. Written at two very different stages of his life, Grieg’s string quartets offer a clear contrast to one another, yet sharing folkloric elements common in Norwegian music of the national romantic era.
Quartetto Testosterone will be performing both the light and cheery F major quartet, which was left unfinished with only two movements fully completed, and is rarely performed; and the grand, dramatic G minor quartet, which stands as one of Grieg’s foremost works and is a central piece in the European chamber music literature.
