Learn how midwestern Swedes responded to Abraham Lincoln's call for troops in 1861. Todd DeDecker will present the story of "Swedes in the Civil War."
The Swedish Union Guard was mustered into service in December 1861 as Company D, 57th Illinois Infantry. Made up of Swedes, mainly from Bishop Hill and surrounding Henry County, the unit fought in the Battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, and "Sherman's March to the Sea."

Lunch will be served at noon followed by the presentation at 1 p.m.
Reservations are requested by May 8 and can be made via www.SwedishAmericanMuseum.org, genealogy@samac.org or 773.728.8111.
Cost is $20/lunch and presentation or $10/presentation only. Reservations are binding.

The American Daughters of Sweden have graciously invited Genealogical Society and Museum members to attend this special presentation by Todd DeDecker, Bishop Hill Heritage Association Administrator. It is in lieu of the Society's regular May program.
