The whole family is gathering for Christmas Eve at Katrine and Mads' house, and it's ripe for family drama: with Katrine's divorced parents, her resentful sister Barbara, and her alcoholic brother-in-law on the guest list, decades of long-simmering resentments and grievances are hovering just below the surface. When Katrine's estranged sister Patricia decides to join the festivities, a boiling point may be imminent. And meanwhile, Katrine's teenage daughter is struggling to get attention on another urgent crisis.
As Katrine struggles to keep her well-planned gathering on the rails, the illusion of holiday peace spirals into an evening of drunken fights and inappropriate revelations, proving that it might be a good thing that Christmas only comes once a year.
Director Paprika Steen also stars in this charming dramedy written by leading Danish playwright Jakob Weis, on why one of the most cherished holidays of the year can also be the most disastrous. (Denmark, 2018)
