Viking Days. A Festival for all senses at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard August 19-20. This educational festival features Nordic foods, lively entertainment, a Viking Encampment, and much more. Eat your way through Scandinavia, tasting goodies from all five countries. Swedish Pancake Breakfast, Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 1pm. Afternoon Salmon Bake with Alder-smoked salmon and all the fixins’. On July 26, learn to prepare pickled herring! Nordic Table knows that no summertime menu or smörgåsbord is complete without pickled herring, so they’re teaching easy ways to vary the flavors and textures of pickled herring. Make pickled herring at least three ways and add a seasonal berry dessert. Instructor Patrice Johnson is a Nordic food geek and meatball historian who loves to give traditional Scandinavian recipes a modern spin. 6:30-8 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute, $45/members, $55/non-members $55.
