Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Swedish artist, Cathrine Oberg, in the Apex of Transcendence. The exhibition is scheduled to run from November 23, 2010 through December 14, 2010 (opening reception: Thursday, December 02, 2010).
Cathrine Oberg’s captivating artworks invite you into a secret world of majesty and wonder. There are recumbent beatific figures and cavernous realms that inspire all the senses, and we may envision echoes of music or feel the gentle flow of water. “They take you into a strange world of hidden places and feelings inside of you,” she explains. “You can float into them and find a place of your own.” Oberg has developed a unique creative process that pairs beautifully with her nearly limitless imagination. She paints with acrylic on canvas covered with silk paper, giving a delicate shimmery appearance to the artwork, and she constantly experiments with a variety of techniques and styles. Oberg also allows chance to enter into the composition, often forgoing the brush and instead using her own body to create forms and imprints directly on the image. A unifying color which can be found in each composition is crimson, a fiery emotive color that holds special significance to the artist.
Oberg exhibits internationally and she resides in Västerås, Sweden.
