Prayers must be part of 'Skolavslutning'

The church demands a prayer to be included when school's out for summer in Granna, Sweden.

Church demands prayer - If school children are to have their “skolavslutning” (breaking up of school before summer and winter vacation) as per tradition in the Gränna church, then a prayer or Christian reading must be included.

Does that sound like the church is asking too much? Well, yes. Because it would in fact be going against the law.

“We feel that since it is our building it is up to us,” says Olle Larsson, chairman of the vestry. The prayer request is also applicable when it comes to concerts in the church, which might mean that Musik i Sommar-Gränna has arranged its last concert in the church.
