The Wife

Filmed in Sweden, the new movie has its share of surprises.

Image

They say that behind every great man is a greater woman, an age-old idea revealed with fresh intensity through Glenn Close’s magnificent portrayal of Joan Castleman in the new film, The Wife.
The film, based on Meg Wolitzer’s novel of the same name, is directed by Swede Björn Runge and filmed in part in Stockholm around events related to the Nobel Prize Ceremony (including an early morning surprise on Dec. 13). The glimpses of Stockholm near Christmas and occasional morsels of the Swedish language underscore the glamour of this most profound, coveted prize while the prize winner’s wife is simultaneously battling the greatest test of her life. All of it sensitively, splendidly well done. A must-see movie for many reasons, with bonus material for us Swedophiles.
